Today we went whale watching. Which is actually mostly water watching. There was
only one whale. She was named Isis and was not interested in putting on a show.
Lunch was at a buffet near the port, and then I spent a while exploring
Akureyri. Obviously the perfect souvenir for Akureyri would be a little traffic
signal with a heart for the red light, so I went looking for that. I checked
store after store. Akureyri, in spite of being so far north and having only
20,000 residents, is a tourist town. There were three large cruise ships docked,
and there are whole stores for selling Iceland and Akureyri souvenirs. But none
had an Akureyri traffic light souvenir. I gave up and walked around other parts
of the town. And then, at an art center, there was a store on the ground floor
that had multiple Akureyri traffic light souvenirs, so I got several.
The weather was good, warm, not rainy, just a bit overcast.
