We had the morning free before flying to Greenland. I started with more chocolate (for later) at Sandholt and a kleina. No picture of that today, but you can see a kleina at a different bakery in the July 22 photos. It is basically a doughnut except sort of diamond shaped and fried to make the outside crispy. I also tried a hotdog from a famed place in Reykjavík but found it meh. I walked around Reykjavík to get a few more pictures. In the late morning, some of the people on the post-trip extension joined our trip leader for a walk and ice cream at Omnom.

We had an uneventful flight to Greenland and landed at Kulusuk airport, which is tiny. We passed from one side of the airport to the other through a single small room. Luggage was brought around the airport on a tractor towing carts.

Kulusuk is a town of around 200 people with an international airport because the US military built a radar monitoring station there in 1956. It is just a dirt runway, and I expect planes do not even refuel there; they just arrive with enough fuel to return. Kulusuk serves as a transfer point for tourists and other travelers.

We went from the airport to the dock and boarded boats to Tasiilaq. The trip is open to the Atlantic Ocean before it enters a fjord at Tasiilaq and was quite bumpy, with the speeding boats hitting waves. The trip took about 45 minutes. We had been scheduled to take a helicopter, but apparently Air Greenland does its own thing.

Tasiilaq, formerly known as Angmassalik, is a pretty town of about 1,800 people. It has one hotel, which was comfortable and well run.
