How many similarities between my Peru-Ecuador trip and this trip did
you catch? Both trips had:
- a wool dyeing demonstration, including red from middle-American insects,
- volcanoes and craters formed from collapsed lava,
- food cooked underground (dinner in a lava tube in Galápagos, bread in a geothermal area in Iceland),
- Peruvian street food (in Keflavík from a food truck),
- visits to isolated communities, and
- boasts of their latitude (low for Ecuador, high for Iceland).
Some general thoughts: Iceland seems to be made largely of lava. The plants are
mostly grass and short vegetation. There are semi-free-roaming sheep and horses
in lots of places. It was interesting seeing mixes of modern comforts and
isolated living.
